1. Rio Tomo, Colombia:

There is a new, very interesting and original concept in river fishing that has been recently established in one of the Orinoco tributaries in Colombia.  It is the Afloat operation,  The fishing is for peacock bass in the Rio Tomo – the largest species that are found in Colombian rivers – and several other important species.  Particularly interesting is the concept of the floating cabins, moving daily up river to new locations.  Fishing can be by fly or by spinner.  See:

We researched this when the operation was being set up last year and found it to be a very exciting experience.  A translation of what was written is follows:

“Incredible, everything – the road transfers, the rooms/beds/bathrooms; refuse/sanitary waste very good; food and service very good – mainly regional cooking from Antioquia; the 14ft boats are new but perhaps lack a couple of extra 2ft; 15hp engines perfect; the fishing magnificent – in both lagoons and the river;  we caught some excellent specimens; we were six fly fishermen and two spinners”

The week that we have next year is 24th Feb to 3rd March 2018, and there is ONE slot left.  The 9 night package (normally USD4,000) includes the nights of 23 Feb and 3 March in a hotel in Medellín.  We are able to make this slot available for USD2,500.
