Introduction:
The recently discovered fishing on the Nubian Flats in the Red Sea provides sensational flats and blue water fishing – particularly for GT’s and trigger fish.
Until recently, North Africa, and especially the coast of Sudan has never been considered a viable fishing destination. Political unrest in neighbouring Southern Sudan has cast an image that has been badly portrayed and has dampened the potential for Sudanese tourism. Along the Red Sea coast of Sudan there are countless islands and wide expanses of shallow water flats. These offer the adventurous fly angler a treasure chest of flyfishing opportunities.
The fishing zone is divided between the Northern Section, which is run as a 7 night, 6 fishing day Programme; and the Southern Section, which operates on a 10 night, 9 fishing day Programme.
Both Programmes are limited to 6 anglers each.
Fishing:
Flats fishing: For both the Northern and Southern Sections, these trips will be focused on the vast flats on the mainland as well as some small islands off the coast of Sudan. On the flats one can expect to encounter vast numbers of triggerfish, but be warned – although there are incredible numbers of triggers, they are still tricky to catch. There are also consistent opportunities for catching big GTs, barracuda, bohar and mangrove snappers, and Milkfish on the flats. Although unpredictable and tricky, there are chances every week for casting at bonefish and permit.
The blue water and edges of the flats have the potential for producing exceptional catches of GTs, dogtooth tuna, bluefin, barracuda, bohar snappers and grouper. This fishing can be extremely exciting and high paced.

Accommodation:
Both operations – north and south – are run from live-aboard motherships, accompanied by skiffs for travelling to and from the flats.
For the Northern Section, the mothership is a beautiful gulet (schooner) which was completely renovated in summer 2009. The Elegante can provide a high level of comfort, thanks to an excellent layout of interior and exterior spaces. There are 7 double cabins, for Single occupation, with private bath and shower, and air conditioning for guests. Meals are served in the top saloon area. The Elegante is accompanied by 2 x Rubber dinghies Marshall 5,75 Mt, with 55 Hp Yamaha outboard engine; and 1 x Panga.
The mothership for the Southern Section is a 100ft Steel hull boat that was originally built as a commercial fishing boat for the North Sea. This boat is extremely spacious and comfortable, fully airconditioned, and allows navigation under any weather conditions. Again, each guest has their own cabin, with AMPLE space. This mothership is accompanied by 2 x Rubber dinghy Marshall 5,75 Mt, with 55 Hp Yamaha outboard engines.
On a scouting trip of the Southern Section last season, 46 GTs were landed between 2 guests over 10 days, with exceptional trigger fishing and ample Bluefin and bohar.
Travel:
The gateway for both northern and southern trips is Port Sudan, which is an isolated town in the Nubian Desert. This is a very sparsely populated area and far removed from the security issues in South Sudan. Form there you will be transported to the respective mothership. Port Sudan is accessed by daily flights from Dubai.
